Our Local Area

We are very lucky to be situated in one of the most beautiful areas within the UK on the world heritage Jurassic coastline. Dorset is, without doubt, the county that has everything.

Chideock

Chideock is a delightful village, 3 miles west of Bridport, with pretty thatched cottages, three traditional pubs, a shop and a two churches. The village has narrow country lanes leading to the beach at Seatown where the coastal path takes you to Golden Cap, the highest point on the Jurassic Coast. The newly refurbished Anchor Inn at Seatown serves fantastic food and drinks throughout the day and is the perfect lunchtime spot. Find out more about the area in the Chideock and Seatown Community website

Broadchurch (West Bay)

west bay
The recent hit TV series, Broadchurch, is really West Bay! Much of the filming for the popular TV show was done in the busy working harbour about 3 miles from Chideock Cottage. The small resort is nestled between the spectacular East and West cliffs. There is plenty to do and see with numerous bars, restaurants and entertainment for all the family. There is even a Broadchurch Tour that has excellent reviews.

Charmouth

Charmouth, approximately 3 miles from Chideock, is world famous for its fossils formed within Jurassic rocks 200 million years ago. The best finds can be found around the cliffs but check out the small museum above the fossil shop for good advice and tips on fossil hunting.

Lyme Regis

Lyme Regis
Lyme Regis is a beautiful seaside resort approximately 6 miles from Chideock. Walk along the famous Cobb harbour or visit the many small boutique shops each side of the steep main street that runs through the town. Recent renovations to the promenade and public gardens have really made Lyme Regis a lovely place to visit.

Bridport

The bustling market town of Bridport is 3 miles away from Chideock with many small independent retailers, restaurants, pubs and tea shops. It has a thriving street market on Saturdays and Wednesdays, vintage market days and a monthly farmers’ market

Weymouth

Weymouth is approximately 20 miles east of Chideock, with a Georgeon seafront, historical buildings and a bustling town centre. This is complemented by quaint side streets with traditional pubs, contemporary bars, cafés and restaurants.
Take a look around the new marina between Weymouth and Portland and, from here, you can walk the Rodwell Trail to the centre of town.

Exeter

A little further afield at about 30 miles, is the vibrant town of Exeter. Visit the beautiful cathedral or shop til you drop at the new shopping district, Princess Hay with numerous restaurants and cafes.
